This week Burton’s MP, Andrew Griffiths announced that the National Audit Office agreed to his request to investigate the empty University Technical College building in Burton.
Speaking on the request, Mr Griffiths said: “£8.6million was spent on a state of the art facility, and taxpayers have a right to know what happened and why it has been allowed to sit unused for two years. People regularly ask me why the UTC has not yet opened and I am pleased that the National Audit Office will now look in to why this was allowed to happen.”
The Department for Education is at the moment looking at bids from schools and other organisations to take it over and Mr Griffiths is hopeful that a decision will be made by the end of the year on who will be able to use the building. Mr Griffiths has been clear that it is important to get it up and running and in use for the young people of the town.
