Burton and Uttoxeter’s MP, Andrew Griffiths, has welcomed the news that the Government will increase sports funding for every primary school. Education Secretary, Justine Greening MP, has announced that the Government will double the physical education and sports premium for primary schools with all schools receiving an increase in their sports funding for the upcoming academic year.
Sports funding is allocated on the basis of the number of children at a primary school with the vast majority of schools receiving over £8,000. But from next month this funding will be doubled with most primary schools getting at least £16,000 for sports activities.
Andrew said: “Getting children active and playing sport sets them on a path to a healthy life, and tackles the increasing problem of childhood obesity. In addition, sport teaches the importance of playing as a team, dedication, drive and a whole host of other positive attributes.
“This announcement means more money for schools in Burton and Uttoxeter, and that means healthier and fitter kids. Coming on the back of the recent commitment for increased funding for schools, this is brilliant news for our kids.”
