SCORES of apprenticeships are to be made available in Burton at a huge event to be held later this summer in a bid to boost the number of young people in work.
Burton’s MP Andrew Griffiths revealed details of the apprenticeships fair aiming to offer the town’s jobless a route into work.
The event will be held at Burton and South Derbyshire College at a date which is expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
Mr Griffiths said apprenticeships were a vital tool that could not only offer the unemployed a route into work, but also help businesses prosper.
The event comes on the back of last year’s jobs fair, that Mr Griffiths was also heavily involved with, which was attended by nearly 2,000 people.
He is hoping that this year’s event will have a similar impact among the jobless in Burton.
Ahead of the event businesses in Burton are also being invited to find out how offering apprenticeships can benefit them.
Local businesses are invited to Burton and South Derbyshire College on June 10, where companies including car giant Toyota will inform attendees how apprenticeships have had a positive affect on their business.
Firms needing some persuasion are being encouraged to see if offering apprenticeships is right for them.
Mr Griffiths said apprenticeships have an important role to play as they can benefit both businesses and people searching for work.
He said: “Apprenticeships have a huge potential not only to give young people training and real life work experience, but also to provide businesses with low-cost access to well-trained and motivated young people who can help businesses thrive.
“This comes on the back of news that the number of businesses supporting apprenticeships is greater than ever. I want companies in Burton, big or small, to think about what a boost taking on an apprentice could provide.”
Mr Griffiths said the success of last year’s jobs fair had filled him with confidence ahead of the upcoming event.
He said: “This is all about putting businesses and young people together. The success of the jobs fair shows us what can be achieved if we all work together.”
