Burton’s MP backs pubs industry’s proposals to create brewing apprenticeship scheme

Andrew Griffiths MP has given his backing to proposals to create an industry wide apprenticeship scheme in brewing. The scheme, which is backed by the Beer and Pub Association and the Society for Independent Brewers would ensure all apprentices are given high quality skills and training they need to build a career in brewing.

The proposals come in the same week that the Government introduced its new apprenticeship levy and plans to double its yearly investment in apprenticeships to £2.5 billion by 2019/20. Recent figures show that apprenticeships are at an all-time record high with 900,000 apprentices last year alone with 90% of apprentices going on to find employment or further education afterwards.

Andrew said, “So many people in Burton learnt their trade as apprentices in our town’s brewers. It would be fantastic to see even more young people getting the skills they need to forge a brewing career. I hope this proposal is taken up so we can train the next generation of brewers from Burton.
