Burton’s MP Andrew Griffiths has launched a campaign to collect Christmas gifts to send to British troops serving abroad over Christmas.
The Burton upon Trent Support Our Soldiers Appeal is seeking donations of packets of sweets, toiletries and other gifts to pack up and send out to British troops in time for Christmas. A Support Our Soldiers donations box, designed and produced by Burton business Hardy Signs, will be available in Burton Town Centre for people to put their donations in to be boxed up and sent out to the troops.
Launching the campaign, Andrew said: “We are all so proud of the dedication and bravery of our Armed Forces, and this campaign is an ideal way for the people of Burton to show their support and gratitude for all they do. Christmas can be a tough time for our troops serving overseas, as they are away from family and friends and all the home comforts we enjoy at Christmas. This campaign is our opportunity to say thank you, and show our support.
“We are appealing for the public, local businesses and organisations to donate whatever they can, so that together we can collect a fantastic amount of gifts to send out in time for Christmas.”
Anyone wishing to donate can bring their items to the box, which is located in Cooper’s Square shopping centre.
Businesses wishing to donate and give their support to the campaign should contact Andrew’s office on 01283 564934.
