BURTON’S MP is backing a bid to let teachers from the town experience a taste of Parliament and take back what they have learned to inspire youngsters through politics.

Andrew Griffiths (pictured) is throwing his weight behind a free parliamentary training scheme that allows teachers from Burton to travel to London for a special conference in a bid to expand their knowledge about the political system and government.

He is hoping that teachers from the area will sign up and help breathe life into politics for school children.

He said: “I will always support anything that will get young people more interested in the democratic process and the political workings of government.

“This scheme is a valuable asset to schools across the area and I would urge as many teachers as possible to sign up and try and be a part of it.

“It will allow them to learn more themselves and then pass this information on to youngsters in the classrooms.

“This will only help teachers and pupils in the long run and I could not urge people enough to get on board and help bring politics and government to more youngsters,”

Parliament’s education service will be hosting the annual teachers’ institute residential course in Westminster from June 30 to July 4.

It will allow teachers a chance to experience Parliament in action during an ‘informative, interactive and unforgettable week’ based at the Houses of Parliament. Transport and accommodation costs are covered for all delegates and applications are welcome from teachers and other professionals working with children aged seven to 18 across citizenship, politics, law and history.
