Burton’s MP Andrew Griffiths has welcomed the news that more people in the UK are employed than ever before, and that the unemployment rate is at an 11-year low.
The figures, published this week by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), as well as showing that the employment rate continues to be at a record high, also show that wages are rising strongly
The statistics for Burton show that there are 623 people claiming unemployment benefit across the constituency, which is a fall of 70% since Andrew became the MP in May 2010.
Andrew said: “It is great news that employment remains at a record high. 95% of the people going back into work since 2010 have gone into permanent roles or self-employment so this gives families the security of a pay packet coming in every month.
“The fact that wages are also growing shows that the economy is strong, and the Government will continue to work to make sure that more people can benefit.”
