When the Government announced that Burton’s Army Reserves Centre, known as Coltman House, would close as part of the Ministry of Defence’s review into their buildings, Andrew started a campaign to lobby Government to prevent this from happening.
Andrew wrote to Ministers at the MoD, raised it in Parliament in questions to the Secretary of State for Defence, and frequently lobbied Ministers.
Andrew argued it was a mistake to close a recruitment centre for reservists at a time when the Army was hoping to recruit more people into the reserves.
So after much behind the scenes lobbying, Andrew was delighted to receive a letter from Defence Minister Julian Brazier MP informing him that after a further review, his campaign had won and the Ministry of Defence would save the Reserve Centre in Burton. The centre will continue to be home to a platoon of F Company 4th Battalion the Mercian Regiment and will also be home to a detachment of 294 Squadron 159 Supply Regiment Royal Logistic Corps. It will also continue to house the local air and army cadets.
It is fantastic news for our community that Burton will retain an army recruitment centre, and this will help to support the Army as they look to recruit more reservists from East Staffordshire.
