The Margaret Stanhope was a vitally important facility in Burton offering care and support for those people suffering with their mental health, and their families. When South Staffordshire Primary Care Trust announced their plans to close the Margaret Stanhope Centre, Andrew took the lead in the campaign to prevent its closure. Working with the Friends of the Margaret Stanhope group, the Burton Mail and with politicians from all political parties, a vigorous campaign was mounted. Andrew helped to collect more than 7,000 constituents from local residents, all opposed to the closure. As part of the campaign, Andrew forced a debate on the campaign on the floor of the House of Commons, which the Speaker John Bercow said was one of the most powerful speeches he had heard. Sadly despite this fantastic campaign and in the face of huge opposition, the PCT forced the closure of the Stanhope. Andrew continues to campaign for better mental health support in Burton and Uttoxeter.
