Brewing and pubs are a vital part of the Burton economy. From multinational brewers like Marston’s and Molson Coors to microbreweries like Burton Bridge and Tower breweries, brewing employs thousands of people locally with many more depending on a healthy brewing industry for their jobs. With some of the largest pub companies in the country such as Spirit and Punch Taverns based in Burton, the town is the home of beer and pubs and the industry is vital to the future of the town. Andrew works hard to represent all of those people working in brewing and pubs and has many achievements on behalf of the industry to his name. As the Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group, Andrew led the campaign to scrap the beer duty escalator introduced by Gordon Brown which had increased beer duty by 40%. Not only did Andrew get the beer duty escalator scrapped, he mounted a campaign which saw beer duty cut not once but for an historic second time in two years. Andrew continues to fight for the industry in Parliament.
