Supporting the Brewing Industry
Supporting calls for more support for the brewing industry
Burton was built on beer, and we have a proud tradition of producing the finest ales in the country. We want it to be part of our future as well as our past. With nearly 39 pubs closing every week up and down the country and even more pubs under increasing threat, the Government should be doing all it can to save and support as many pubs as possible.
The new Government is working to:
- Use smart taxes to encourage sensible drinking with a pledge to cut taxes on lower alcohol drinks such as lower alcohol beers such as those brewed in Burton and raise taxes on problem drinks like high strength beers and ciders. The tax system should target binge drinking whilst ensuring that responsible drinkers and the traditional British pub are not unfairly penalised.
- Enforce existing laws to deal firmly with irresponsible drinkers and premises that sell alcohol to drunks or children.
- Trust adults to make informed choices, not punish them for the actions of an irresponsible minority.
- Support the British pub as a vital part of local communities by cutting red tape and bureacracy.
