Supporting the brewing industry

Andrew brought George Osborne to the Marston's brewery to see the importance of brewing to our local economy
Brewing is a vital part of Burton's economy. From multinational brewers like Marston's and Molson Coors to micro-breweries like Burton Bridge and the Old Cottage brewery, brewing employs hundreds of people locally, with many more depending on a healthy brewing industry for their jobs.
Andrew is working hard to make sure that the issues facing our brewers and community pubs are kept on the agenda. As Vice-Chairman of the Parliamentary Group on Beer, Andrew is standing up for our brewers and our local pubs.
Our pubs play a key role in our local communities, providing a place where people can meet and drink in a safe environment but we have seen pubs closing at an alarming rate because of increased regulation and tough competition from supermarkets. Andrew has tabled a motion in Parliament to prevent supermarkets selling alcohol below what it costs to make - something that would reduce anti-social behaviour and support our community pubs.
He is also campaigning for reform of Labour’s disastrous 24 hour drinking laws, which led to an increase in alcohol-related crime, and for smart measures to encourage sensible drinking.
