A DIY depot has collected snacks and toiletries which will give soldiers serving abroad a welcome boost this Christmas.
Staff at the B&Q depot, in Wellington Road, aim to raise as many shoe boxes of items as possible.
They will contain toiletries and treats which will be sent to service personnel spending the festive season away from friends and family.
Mick Teasel, who organised the collection at the depot, which will continue until the new year.
He said, “We’ve already passed some boxes on which can be sent out in time for Christmas but we’re going to keep going and send some more out in January.
“We’ve also had an ex-engineer join us recently and he said when he was serving abroad he really looked forward to the shoe box deliveries.”
Burton’s MP Andrew Griffiths said he was “overwhelmed” by the generosity of the staff at B&Q and also those that have already made donations to the main collection in Coopers Square.
About 30 boxes of items have already been donated.
He said, “As a result of both collections we now have a number of shoeboxes full of goodies we can send to servicemen and women abroad that has far exceeded our expectations.
“I think Burton has got a long tradition of providing personnel to the armed forces and the generosity shown by Burtonians will show through the collection.”
