Burton’s MP, Andrew Griffiths has welcomed the latest employment figures which were released this week showing yet another decrease in people claiming unemployment benefit in Burton. The claimant is now only 675 and is 68% lower than it was when Mr Griffiths was first elected to serve as Burton’s MP back in May 2010.
Mr Griffiths said, “These are welcome figures but more importantly, there is a person and a family behind every number who now receives a pay packet at the end of every month. With more women in work than ever before and youth employment continuing to grow it highlights the Government’s commitment ensuring everyone experiences the benefits from the jobs boost”.
Figures also published this week show that average wages grew by 2.4% over the last year, while over the same period inflation for food and fuel prices continues to be low. This is more good news for the UK’s economy and it is clear Burton’s job market is seeing the benefits.
Mr Griffiths is hoping these figures will be further boosted following Burton and Uttoxeter’s Job Fair, being held at the Pirelli Stadium on Thursday 29th September. Companies who will be attending are still to be announced but last year’s fair had more than 3000 jobs on offer.
