Burton MP Andrew Griffiths describes Royal Mail workers in the town as ‘first class’

BURTON’S MP has praised the ‘first class’ effort from postal staff during a pre-Christmas visit to the town’s mail sorting office.

Andrew Griffiths helped sort through a raft of letters and parcels at the busy site in Falcon Close, off Hawkins Lane, to show his support for Royal Mail posties and staff.

Mr Griffiths, who visits Royal Mail staff each Christmas, told the Mail: “With Black Friday and the advent of online shopping, the workload of postmen and women is now increasing more than ever, especially at this time of year.

“I was staggered to discover that yesterday alone they would deliver 1,400 packages and parcels to addresses across Burton.

“I would like to thank all staff at the Royal Mail who will be working overtime during the next few days to ensure that we get our Christmas cards and presents in time for the big day.”

Mr Griffiths visited the sorting office as it was announced that it would open from 10am to 2pm next Sunday to help with the Christmas rush.

The office will open for longer in the run up to Christmas to offer more convenience to customers picking up Christmas mail and parcels.

Tony Fox, Royal Mail operations director spoke to the Mail

He said: “We are continuing to be more customer responsive and provide more options for people to receive items they have ordered online, especially at our busiest time of the year. We hope it provides a helping hand for customers during the very busy festive season.

“Customers can also help us by posting early and by the recommended posting dates and using the postcode on all mail they are posting.”
