NOMINATE YOUR YOUNG VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

Wednesday 22nd September 2010 (Andrew Griffiths)

Burton and Uttoxeter MP, Andrew Griffiths, has called for nominations for a national award scheme that recognises young volunteers.

The vinspired National Awards recognise young people and youth workers who embody the spirit of volunteering – people who have helped their local community, overcome personal adversity or made a big difference to the lives of other people.

Anyone can nominate (although you can’t nominate yourself) and anyone aged 16 – 25, who has made a difference in their community between August 2009 and July 2010. There is also an award for the best youth worker.

Urging local people to send in their nominations, Andrew said:
“There are so many young people doing so much incredible work as volunteers across Burton and Uttoxeter. The vinspired Awards recognise exceptional young volunteers from across England and it would be fantastic if a volunteer in Burton and Uttoxeter were to win one of these prestigious awards. To make that happen, we need you to send in your nominations now.”

The award categories include:

  • The Fresh Award for best new volunteer
  • The Spirit Award for the all round commitment to volunteering embodying the spirit of volunteering
  • The Connect Award to recognise innovative and effective efforts to bring communities together
  • The Legend Award for outstanding leadership
  • The Shout Award for campaigning
  • The Triumph Award for overcoming personal adversity or enabling a community to rise above a challenging circumstance
  • The Unite Award for team activity
  • The Energy Award for outstanding contribution to youth volunteering (for youth workers)

Supporting the vinspired National Awards, HRH Prince William said:
“The winners of the vinspired National Awards highlight the diverse range of volunteering opportunities that are available to young people. The awards showcase what can be achieved when young people apply their remarkable energies and determination. They also demonstrate the enormously positive contribution 16 to 25 year-olds can make to our society through volunteering.”
