Burton’s Member of Parliament Andrew Griffiths and Mayor of East Staffordshire Cllr Simon Gaskin faced off in a charity T20 cricket match on Sunday, to raise money for the Mayor’s charities.
The annual fixture, held at Rolleston Cricket Club, sees the MP and the Mayor and their respective teams battle it out to score as many runs as possible in twenty overs.
The score was 1-1 going into this year’s match, but Andrew’s team emerged victorious after successfully chasing the Mayor’s team’s total of 115, in a very close game.
Andrew said: “I am thrilled to have won the coveted trophy back from the Mayor this year after a hard fought match. Huge thanks to everyone who took part or helped on the day, and especially to Rolleston Cricket Club for hosting us. Competition aside, the match is always a fun day and a great opportunity to raise some funds for the Mayor’s brilliant charities – Burton Albion Community Trust and Burton Mencap.”
Simon said: “Thank you to Andrew and his team for organising the day, and a big thank you to everyone who came along and helped raise £500 for my charities.”
Sunit Purandare was man of the match with a top score of 46.
