MP announces jobs fair to tackle unemployment

BURTON’S MP has announced details of a third jobs fair in the town as part of his crusade to cut unemployment.

Andrew Griffiths revealed that the event would be held on Friday, September 13, at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium, in Princess Way.

With the past two events having more than 3,000 jobs up for grabs, the parliamentarian is hoping that this year’s will be the ‘best yet’.

He told the Mail: “I am very pleased to announce that the jobs fair will be returning for the third year running.

“In the first year, 1,000 jobs on offer and more than 2,000 people attended.

“There were queues snaking around the stadium as people could not wait to get in and the event was a great success.

“Last year, 40 companies decided to back the event with more than 2,000 jobs offered up and 1,500 came along to try their luck.

“During the past two events, we have had a wide range of firms such as JCB, Healthcare at Home and Nestle who have backed the jobs event.

“Now, for a third year in a row, I am delighted to have been asked by local firms to stage the jobs fair at the Pirelli Stadium.

“Firms who have been involved before have told me how much they find it useful and thus the need to repeat such a winning formula.

“It gives them the opportunity to advertise roles for free of charge and to a captive market.

“Due to the way it is set up, firms can meet a large number of jobseekers who attend the fair looking for their next opportunity.

“The event is free for any business to have a stall the only proviso is that they must be proper jobs on offer and not the opportunity to go on a waiting list.

“The countdown is now on until the fair and I am hoping that this year will be the most successful yet.”

Major firms have backed the event in the past including Boots, UPS, Vodafone and Sky TV.

Burton-based Spirit, Punch, Molson Coors and Burton and South Derbyshire College also had stalls with JCB providing big backing,
