MP cuts the ribbon on fast-track training project

A PROJECT to train and fast-track the unemployed into well-paid industrial jobs has been officially launched.

Burton MP Andrew Griffiths visited Momentum, in Marchington Industrial Estate, to cut the ribbon on the project.

The first intake of new welders commenced last week in partnership with Burton and South Derbyshire College.

Mick Wood, Momentum assessor, said he was encouraged by candidates’ ‘enthusiasm’ in their drive to gain employment.

One student currently on a welding course at the training centre, Dave McKee, praised the guidance he has received.

He said: “It is the first time I have been on such a practical, hands-on course and it’s a real eye-opener.

“Learning in this way by getting real experience is really enjoyable, especially with the support of Mick.”
