Burton MP Andrew Griffiths is meeting a delegation from Tesco to discuss Bargates’ redevelopment in Parliament on Wedsnesday. Andrew wrote to Sir Terry Leahy, Chief Executive of Tesco, when hearing of his planned resignation, saying that the issue of Bargates was far too important to lie sitting in the intray of an incoming Chief Executive. The supermarket immediately contacted Andrew to arrange a meeting to discuss the progress of the site.
“The regeneration of Bargates is crucial to the future prosperity of Burton. I am delighted that Tesco has acted in such a positive way and I want to work with them to bring redevelopment to the site. Tesco have the responsibility to the people of Burton to do the right thing and I will do all I can to make sure that happens. It is essential that we all work together – politicians the council, Tesco’s and local business to deliver regeneration in the town.”
