Burton’s MP Andrew Griffiths held an urgent meeting with the Roads Minister Andrew Jones MP, to discuss the lack of lighting along the A38.
This follows engineers turning off the lights along the A38 between Branston and Marley Eternit due to a fault, and leaving road users and residents in the dark. Highways England had informed Mr Griffiths that a new lighting scheme was being designed, but could not confirm when it would be installed.
Andrew said: “I am very concerned that the lights being switched off and the delays to the new lighting will compromise safety on the A38 and put lives in danger.
“I met with the Minister to make sure he is aware of my concerns, and those of road users, and he has agreed to look into the matter for me.”
Mr Griffiths remains in contact with Highways England as well and is expecting to meet with them too as a matter of urgency.
