Burton’s MP Andrew Griffiths has asked for an urgent meeting with Roads Minister Andrew Jones MP and Highways England over the blackout on the A38.
In recent weeks the lighting along the A38 between the Branston roundabout and Marley Eternit has been turned off by Highways England because it was “faulty”. However there is still no date for its replacement, so Mr Griffiths has written requesting an urgent meeting.
Andrew said: “We all see on a daily basis the problems drivers have along the A38 already. The lack of lighting in the Branston area puts the safety of drivers and pedestrians at risk, and it is vital that Highways England fix this as a matter of urgency. I am concerned that the lack of lighting could lead to an increase in the number of incidents along the route – and potentially a serious accident.
“I have written to both Highways and the Roads Minister explaining just how important this is, and asking for an urgent meeting. I want to see the lighting restored urgently for the peace of mind of everyone using the route.”
Highways England informed Mr Griffiths in an earlier letter that they are working on a new lighting scheme, but they were unable to confirm when this would be installed.
