Andrew Griffiths, MP for Burton, has been appointed Secretary of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for the Misuse of Drugs and Alcohol. APPGs are groups of influential MPs who focus on specific areas of government policy.
“Too often in my surgeries I see the devastating impacts of addiction. It is essential we come up with a proper programme to help addicts and their families overcome addiction and rebuild their lives. Burton is a brewing town and I want to see a healthy brewing industry, but I also want to ensure that we address the issues of alcohol and drugs abuse, giving addicts the help and support they need.”
“Organisations like the Burton Addiction Centre are leading the way in treating drug misuse and I want to see these kinds of strategies rolled out more widely across the country.”
Andrew has been a long-standing supporter of the Burton Addiction Centre, bringing Iain Duncan-Smith to see for himself the impressive work being done there.
Kendra Gray, a director of the Burton Addiction Centre, said:
“We are delighted Andrew has been appointed to this important position. He is such a vocal and active supporter of the work we do and has more than proved his commitment to tackling drug abuse, going to great lengths to understand the difficulties that addicts face. It is fantastic that we will have an effective campaigner and someone who cares about this issue working hard for the right changes in government.”
