Unemployment trebles in Burton and Uttoxeter

5th April 2010

The number of jobless in the Burton and Uttoxeter constituency has trebled in a little over 2 years of Gordon Brown's mismanagement.

Commenting on the devastating figures for local people, Andrew Griffiths, Parliamentary candidate for Burton and Uttoxeter said,

"Each and every one of those job statistics is a family in Burton and Uttoxeter devastated by Labour's failures. Rather than try to hide behind statistics, Labour should admit this is the legacy of Gordon Brown's disastrous handling of the economy, and his latest jobs tax will only make things worse.

Unemployment has TREBLED in just a little over 2 years, from 804 at the beginning of 2008 to 2,403 in February 2010, the last date for which figures are available.

Andrew said "Gordon Brown's proposal for a National Insurance jobs tax will stamp out the green shoots and kill the recovery. Only Conservative plans to cut wasteful government spending and stop the jobs tax will get Britain working"
