UNEMPLOYMENT IS AT ITS LOWEST FOR 7 YEARS
Newly released figures show that unemployment has fallen for the eighth consecutive month in Burton & Uttoxeter today. The Jobseekers’ Allowance Claimant figure for October is 828, down from 913 in the previous month. This compares to 1248 in October last year and is Burton & Uttoxeter’s lowest rate of unemployment since December 2007- some 7 years! Within those figures, youth unemployment is 215, down from 350 last year, and long term youth unemployment is now at just 10, down from 55 a year ago and half of what it was in September. This means that more and more young people are finding work and can get their foot on the career ladder.
Compared to the rest of the country, Burton & Uttoxeter is doing really well with a claimant rate of only 1.6%. This puts Burton & Uttoxeter in a better position than 71% of the country and shows that it is benefitting from the Government’s long term economic plan.
Andrew said: “This is excellent news for all those families who now have the security of a job, and shows the difficult decisions we took are now paying off and that our long term economic plan is working. “I would like to pay tribute to all those local businesses who are working so hard to grow and take on new people, and the Jobcentre Plus team for helping people find that job. “There is still a great deal to do, and we may yet see blips in the months to come, but we are on the way to securing a future for our country.”
