Women’s Institute donates to soldiers campaign

AN East Staffordshire women’s institute has donated £100 worth of items to soldiers who will be serving away from home this Christmas.

The Rolleston on Dove Women’s Institute raised the money at a coffee evening to pay for the items which were then donated to the Support Our Soldiers campaign.

Support our Soldiers is a campaign which Burton MP Andrew Griffiths launched to deliver hard to come by items to serving troops at Christmas.

The group met Mr Griffiths when they dropped the items into the donation box in Coopers Square.

Mrs Conner told the Mail: “We were very pleased because we had a nice social coffee evening which raised the money to spend on the project.

“We put it to our members and they were very pleased to offer their support and we hope they will go to soldiers from our area.

“We set out with the list and we got mostly toiletries and snacks.”

Items which can be donated include snacks, toiletries, stationary and underwear but not chocolate.
